2016 Bathurst 1000 Winners

It has been a long time coming, but on the 9th of October 2016, the TEKNO name was engraved into Australian Motorsport history. Firstly for winning the 2016 Bathurst 1000, but also for being the first team to win both the Bathurst 12 hour Endurance race and the Supercars Bathurst 1000 in the same year. Will Davison and TEKNO owner Jonathon Webb and drove an error free race which was backed up by precise and faultless pit stops from the crew. A crash late in the race between the front three runners saw Will battling it out with Shane Van Gisbergen over the final 3 laps. With extremely limited fuel, the #19 Supercar coughed its way over the finish line to win the closest Bathurst race in history.

"Incredible Day. Unbelievably proud of our little team TEKNO Autosports to take home the Peter Brock trophy. Jonathon Webb drove brilliantly all day - the little team that could!" - Will Davison

2016 TEKNO Annual Open Day

Once again, the annual TEKNO Open Day was a huge success! A change in format saw an early 7am start with plenty of coffee consumed along with bacon and egg rolls. Attendees were greeted by a range of exotic and home-grown cars which had been enhanced by TEKNO Performance, along with the #19 TEKNO Autosports V8 Supercar and the three GT McLarens. V8 Simulators, Face Painting and a jumping castle kept the kids busy whilst the Mum's and Dad's chatted with the Drivers. Thanks to our friends at Motorama Holden Springwood for the early morning breakfast, plus our other suppliers who had product displays.

The Mythical Land of Factory Warranty's on Modifications

In this week's blog we thought we would take a stroll through the mythical land of Factory Warranty's on Modifications.  It's a wonderful land, full of cars that look, sound and go exactly like everyone wants them to.  In this wonderful land everyone is happy, because we all still have a factory warranty on our new vehicles even with all our dream modifications in place.  The manufacturers in this wonderful place don't mind how you change what they have designed, tested, and spent millions of dollars on research and development. To create a product that meets the demands of not only the customer, but stringent emissions and safety laws.

If only we could live in this fantastic place.  Reality, compared to that mythical land, is a tad disappointing.  It doesn't take much of a change from what rolls off the factory line before the manufacturer says "no dice!"

Lets have a quick look at what a Factory Warranty is:

The Factory Warranty is put in place to protect the consumer from sub standard products.  It's a guarantee from the manufacturer that their product will last for a certain amount of time or for a certain amount of uses.  If the product doesn't meet this guarantee, then the manufacturer is obligated to rectify the issue as per the stated agreement.  This is where our world starts to blur that line a little.  A manufacturer is obligated to keep their end of the agreement IF it is still the same product that they sold you.  If you have modified the product in any way and a failure has happened, it only makes sense that the manufacturer is going to claim that the agreement is void, due to the product not being the same product that they created and sold you.

Here's the tricky part

Is the problem related to the modifications that you have done to your car? Example; You have put a new set of wheels and tyres on your car and the in-car entertainment stops working well within the warranty period.  Chances are (and I'm being very general here, every dealer and manufacturer is different and will tackle these problems in unique ways) that the dealer or manufacturer will over look this modification as it doesn't directly effect the issue with the in-car entertainment. This all seems pretty simple so far.

What happens when I upgrade my new car's power?

With today's complex engines and management systems, the most effective way to see an increase in power over what the manufacturer created, is to adjust the ECU.  Whether it is just to recalibrate it to allow for better air intake or exhaust with a set of extractors, or a complete re-mapping of the management system, the ECU needs to be changed.  The ECU is an integral part of the engine and drive train, so there is no doubt that if you change that, the factory is going to claim that your agreement with them is void.  No matter who changes that ECU, if the factory can see it, they will not honour the agreement that you and they entered in to when you purchased the vehicle.

Dealership Vs Factory

They're the same thing right? Nope.  A Dealership has one purpose, to sell cars.  The Factory only supplies the Dealership with a finished product to sell.  If the Dealership needs to sweeten the deal to get the sale, they will, but this is carried out by the Dealership, not the Factory.  Here's the important part, and this is very important.  Only genuine Factory options are covered in your warranty agreement with the Factory. Don't get confused with the Dealership offering non genuine extras to your new car.  Most of the extras offered by a Dealership will be items that the Dealership has to cover themselves, or, the third party that is offering the extras will be expected to cover them.  The Factory won't even cover non genuine Dealership options, that's how separate they are.  Unfortunately, even your sales person may not fully understand this.

Am I up a certain creek with out a paddle?

Not necessarily.  We understand that some people can't justify giving up the peace of mind of a factory warranty to have some more power.  Having your cake and eating it too is something we like our customers to be able to experience, so we offer a 3 year drivetrain warranty to cover what the factory won't on most of our Power Packs.  Even adding a Supercharger can still come with a warranty on the drivetrain.  So yes, you can add something special to your next purchase and be happy with the knowledge that you are still covered.  It just won't be by the factory.  Always be sure to check who is covering your warranty if you decide to upgrade your power.  Or, if you're covered at all.

The Answer is always Track Day

Working in the automotive performance industry may seem like an easy gig.  Lots of like minded people coming to us with their wants and needs.  More power, more speed, more noise, more, more, more.  Simple right?  Just give them what they want.  Only, its not that simple.  Only a small percentage of people that come to us, know exactly what they want.  Most have a vague idea when they walk through the door, but are faced with a multitude of decisions once they start to see the range of options that we have available.  That's when we get to see the full spectrum of our customer base.  Most would love to hand the car over with the instructions "Make it Awesome!!" or salivate over an options list that they have always wanted on their car (also some they didn't know about).  But the reality is that there are plenty of outside factors that keep a cap on us getting what we want, all the time.  Most are valid, some are questionable, but all make sense. Except one.

Where am I going to use it?  Speed limit is only 110km/h.

The simple answer is a Race Track.  You take it to a race track to unleash not only what the car has to offer, but more often than not, what you have to offer.  You don't need to have a race car to use a Race Track.  You don't even need to be racing.  With technology making it more and more difficult to keep points on your licence, every car enthusiast is struggling to get that hit of excitement that they love from their cars.  This is why Track Days are gaining so much popularity.  They offer a place that you get to enjoy what you love in a controlled environment.

What is a Track day?

Track days come in many different guises.  From full club days to Circuit and Coffee type themes.  There is something for everyone of every skill level.  The point of track days is to make the track environment accessible to everyone.  The track environment is important for a number of reasons.  Safety being the top of that list.  It creates a more predictable environment, no intersections, no traffic lights, one way traffic and only one option on where to go.  Everyone there is briefed on what to do (according to the type of track day you are participating in) so that unpredictable or confusing situations are minimised.  The Track is a place that is purpose built for the activity of going fast.  That is why it's the perfect environment for you to get your car out there and see what it can do.  Most Track days are quite relaxed events that allow you to mingle with other participants, grab a coffee, maybe something to eat and talk about everything from car set up to better lines around the circuit.  Some track days (like ours) will have professional instructors there to help you with any questions and guide you through everything from the beginners jitters, to an old lap hound trying to find a few more tenths around their favourite track.

So never again can you use the excuse that there is no point to having more power, better brakes or performance suspension.  We just made it possible to use your performance car they way it was intended.

We will be holding our TEKNO@TWILIGHT events all summer at Sydney Motorsport Park for you to get out there and see what all the fuss is about.  They are a relaxed atmosphere that allows you either get a taste for the track day events or give you the opportunity to hone your skills with tips from our instructors.

Jump on our Events page to get signed up for our next event and go experience for your self what its like to have some real fun in your car.

TEKNO Performance at SEMA 2015

If you ask most car enthusiasts about SEMA they will more than likely tell you that it is on their bucket list of must see events during their life time.  The reason that most of those enthusiasts haven't had the chance to visit this spectacular event is that it is not open to the public.  SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) is a trade show, meaning that only people involved with the industry can participate.  This is where anyone and everyone that is involved with aftermarket products for vehicles all come together to show of their latest and greatest wares.  Its a place where new ideas are finally revealed, long awaited products are finally released, and many new relationships between companies are created.  Endless meeting rooms and board rooms are set up to cater for the numerous negotiating between manufacturers, suppliers and retail businesses.  Oh, did I mention that this is all held under the glittery lights of Las Vegas, Nevada once a year?

What better place to showcase the hottest products on some of the worlds most spectacular cars.  The Las Vegas Convention Centre hosts this massive event over 4 days.  Most people that attend say that it is not enough to take in all that is on offer.  We love it because it gives us a chance to meet face to face with a lot of our overseas suppliers and create relationships with new ones.  It's such fantastic place to share new ideas and to see what is possible now and coming up in the future.

Speaking of what we have coming up in the future, SEMA was the perfect place to confirm details about our upcoming Ford Mustang range of products.  Exciting times ahead for those with one on order.  Ours will be arriving soon and we can't wait to show you guys what we can do with them.

There was still quite a lot going on with GM and their LS engines, did I mention that Edelbrock  intake? Check out our facebook page for that.  So many great options, and so nice to see that our work is being recognised around the world, with many brands recognising who we are and what we do.  It's so great to catch up with so many familiar faces to discuss, not only our products, but what we have seen and the ideas that inevitably flow from that.

Have a flick through some of the awesome-ness that was SEMA 2015 at the top and bottom of this page, and let us know what you're looking forward to seeing come through our workshop the most.

2015 V8 Supercars Gold Coast 600

What a weekend!!  After a lightning quick qualifying session from Shane to put the car on Pole, it was up to Jonathon to get the Saturday race off to the planned start that the team had in mind.  What a start it was! Jonno proving that you don't need a clutch in your daily drive car to know how to read them, getting the STIX Commodore off the line and out to an incredible lead that set the tone for the rest of the race.  Even a 24hr bug couldn't keep Jonno from his steely focus. Handing the car over to Shane with a 10 second lead.  That was more than enough for Shane to control the rest of the race easily, even able to fend off a late challenge from Dave Reynolds after a safety car.

It was a great day for the Tekno Team with everything going to plan.  We were loving the huge support from fans as they swung by the Tekno Performance tent to offer their congratulations after the race.

We want to offer a huge thank you to everyone that came out see us over the 3 days.  Lots of enquiries, lots of excitement, lots of praise, and just lots of people loving our cars and wanting to chat about them.  The TEKNO BMW M4 was a massive hit!  The Yas Marina Blue is the perfect colour for a car that has been enhanced by the TEKNO team.  It really highlighted the attention to detail that we put in to our cars.

As we predicted, the main star of our display was the TEKNO VFII SS.  Fans were blown away by the performance we get out of the LS3 V8 that is now standard in the Series 2 Commodore.  Most people left our stand quite excited about the prospect of being able to have HSV Clubsport performance (in a naturally aspirated engine) for such a modest price.  So if you're looking at the new VFII Commodore and HSV range, have a chat with us about what we can do so that you are getting the most bang for your buck.

We always love having our TEKNO GTS on display.  The performance numbers and those head turning red wheels never fail to produce a combination of shock and awe.  Its a fantastic example of what we can do when you want the most from your LSA powered HSV.

Once again, all of us at the TEKNO Performance team want to thank everyone who came out to say hello and making it such an awesome 3 days.

2015 WTAC at Sydney Motorsport Park

Wow, what a great weekend out at the WTAC held at Sydney Motorsports Park.  It was great to be part of such a fantastic event.  Big Congratulations to Garth Walden and the Tilton Racing Team for their World Record time of 1:23.777.  They were fast all weekend but I don’t think anyone (except them) expected a time like that!  Well done.

A shout out to our very own Shane Van Gisbergen and the MCA Team for getting their Silvia on to the second step of the podium after a disappointing first few runs early on Friday.  The team were able to put their heads together to come up with some great solutions.  Shane showed he had the minerals to keep pushing that car in to turn one even when the front end wasn’t ideal.

It’s always great to catch up with some familiar faces and see their reaction when they realise that we have a shop in Eastern Creek now.  You can almost immediately see the cogs start turning as they begin to process that bit of information and the possibilities that go with it.  Along with the familiar faces there were a lot of new ones.  Lots of great ideas and some very creative people that we are looking forward to working with, some very cool stuff coming up.

As per usual the CPC boys were amazing all weekend, they worked hard to help us put on a great event.  A big thank you to all that came and said hello and we look forward to seeing you in the Tekno Performance tent at the V8 Supercars Gold Coast 600 from Oct 23rd – 25th
